IISE Columbus Chapter #1 "May Flowers" Memo!!
was a Florist from Findlay, OH, Sink’s Flowers!! So in May I think of his Shop and Greenhouse in the Spring. I trust you are enjoying our Ohio Spring!
We have five things to share with you this Month:
(1) Chapter Leadership Team Meeting Summary from our 14 April meeting;
(2) LEAN Webinar, September, 27th, 12-1:15 pm
(3) Resources in our Columbus and Ohio areas;
(4) IISE Annual Conference ‘tickle’, 21-24 May, Anaheim, CA ;
(5) All-OHIO Fall Dinner Meeting Get Together, 26 October.
re-formed Chapter Leadership Team held a planning meeting the 14th of April at OSU
Jared Frederici, The Poirier Group; Stephanie Viehman, The Poirier Group; John Yesso; Michael Devenney, Sr. Supply Chain Consultant; and Vanessa Serrano, OSU Student Chapter President; Bobby Smyth, Region VP, IISE for Chapter Operations.
Casimira Federspiel, Ascena Retail Group, is part of our team but unable to attend. David Harry, our current Treasurer is in the midst of a move to Tennessee and will also be unavailable.
What we got done (highlights):
We divided up all the Chapter members, mapped them to a team member, and came up with a messaging campaign to reach out, personally, and seek input and feedback from our members. That activity is underway.
One goal our desired outcome from that is to create a better relationship, one-on-one, with our members AND to get attendance at our All-Ohio Meeting (senior Chapter members) up this year.
John Yesso is working to reach out to our Ohio IISE members who are not ‘attached’ to a Senior Chapter and invite them to become a part of our Columbus Chapter and participate in our ‘virtual’ offerings at a minimum.
Scott is working with the OSU Student Chapter to leverage some of their ‘infrastructure’ support.
And we discussed plans for our Webinar in the Fall (update follows)
2. LEAN Webinar
One of the apparent unmet needs in our Chapter is
benchmarking on lean start-ups, being able to pick the brains of organizations that are fairly far down the lean journey.
"Lessons and Learnings and Tips for Lean Journeys"
Date and Time:
27 September, 12-1:15 pm EDT
1. Victoria Jordan (Fellow of IISE) CONFIRMED
Executive Director, Quality Measurement and Systems Engineering, MD Anderson Cancer Center
2. Boeing Helicopter Plant, Mesa, AZ CONTACTED and CONSIDERING
The Council of Industrial and Systems Engineers visited this plant several years ago and I was so impressed with the progress this facility has made in their Lean Journey (now approaching 15 years I would guess). If they agree to participate it will be an outstanding story to hear about.
3. Stephanie Viehman and Jared Frederici
(Columbus Chapter Members and Leadership Team),
The Poirier Group—creating a “Grand Strategy” for your Lean Transformation
This will be low to no cost for Columbus Chapter members and all student chapter members.
3. Resources of Interest in Our Greater Columbus
We’ve assembled some links to some great resource organizations in our area that might be of interest to you.
4. IISE Annual Conference
et us know if you plan to attend!!
I’ll be there and I know, as usual, a large # of ISE Students will be too!!
Brian Betts, an ISE Leader from Disney, is one of the keynote speakers. I’ve known Brian for a number of years, he was Disney’s Council on Industrial and Systems Engineering Representative for a number of years. His keynote and the others are examples of features of our Conference that are worth the price of admission!!
If you haven’t been to an Annual Conference, and want to know what to expect, let me know, I’ve been to over 50 and tell you about them and help you ensure you get the most out of your investment!!
